We had another LU steam run by Met-1 this summer (LT Hammersmith 150 Anniversary) and managed to capture at Baker Street. Also in October GWR Steam Rail Motor also ran along the Brentford Branch. Sadly we have 3 engines final runs before their overhaul this year, Tornado, Braunton and Bittern.
THE BERKS & HANTS AQUAE SULIS by Earl of Mount Edgcumbe in April capture at Lower Basildon. Waking up 4am twice to capture Sir Nigel Gresley movement near Reading in April. THE GREAT BRITAIN VII Day 1 hauled by Braunton at Pirbright. Union of South Africa movement at Lower Basildon in May. THE WELSH BORDERS by Braunton near Didcot was also in May. THE SEAFORD-BRIGHTON 150 SPECIAL was in early June. Oliver Cromwell and Black 5 44932 were in action. THE SWANAGE BELLE in June and THE DORSET COAST EXPRESS in July by Black 5 44932. DCE in August was by Oliver Cromwell. My first North Wales day-out, THE NORTH WALES COAST EXPRESS by Union of South Africa at Conwy Castle and THE WELSH MOUNTAINEER by 8F 48151 at Blaenau Ffestiniog. Tornado’s final run before her overhaul THE DEVON BELLE at Lower Padworth and Kintbury. Tangmere managed to haul DCE and also THE ATLANTIC COAST EXPRESS in September. THE SOLENT AND SARUM by Braunton, the outward at Winchfield and the return at Haslemere. Driving more than 2 hours and 100 miles to get Westbury and found Cathex by Bittern was cancelled, but managed to capture few Bittern’s movement around Westbury in September. THE CANTERBURY BELLE by Braunton, at Knockholt and then chased to Canterbury West. Braunton’s final tour before her intermediate overhaul was Cathex from Alresford MHR to Kingscote BBR and return, captured near East Grinstead and Dorking Deepdene in October. Nunney Castle’s movement after joining MHR Autumn Gala in November. THE WORCESTER CHRISTMAS MARKET by Union of South Africa at Goring in November. There are already some masts along the line for the electrification. As always, we have many steam runs in December. Like last year, 2 Black 5s 44871 and 45407 were double-headed to service Cathex. Usual THE BATH CHRISTMAS MARKET and THE CHRISTMAS SUSSEX BELLE, THE SHERBORNE CHRISTMAS CAROLS were by tangmere. On 30th December, THE BITTERN FAREWELL TOUR, final Bittern tour before withdrawal for her overhaul was captured at Alexandra Palace. Many Cathex runs over the year including the one from Horsham by Oliver Cromwell that was captured at Dorking and needless to say VSOE (now BELMOND BRITISH PULLMAN) by Cran Line along Surrey Hills.
