2nd Dec: LMS Class 5MT 4-6-0 Black 5 #44871 and #45407 THE CATHEDRALS EXPRESS from West Brompton to Bristol Temple Meads 1Z89 Dorking West-Gomshall. After the long (?) Dorking West station stop, two Black 5s attacking a four-mile climb (starting from the viaduct over the river Mole east of Dorking Deepdene) along North Downs up to the former Reading, Guildford and Reigate Railway summit. Heard tremendous blasting noise for (I think) almost 5 minutes before seeing the train and another 1 or 2 minutes after seeing the train, they were really working hard under the very wet track condition.
